idea of the day

idea of the day iconCHARACTERS: Let's have some fun with a character who has been trained to extract confessions from people - rather ruthlessly. Unfortunately - for him anyway - his services are no longer required and he's had to take on other work. Lets start by having him write a travel column for a newspaper. Think about how he would go about this. Perhaps he would travel to the place in question and rent somewhere cheap and out of the way. He and an associate would then find someone who knows he place and speaks English. They'd kidnap them and take them to the place they'd rented. Our character would then extract the information he required, using all his skills of tact and diplomacy. He ties them to a chair, shines a light in their eyes, threatens them with a variety of weapons, and then starts asking the questions. 'What is your name? Where do you live? If you don't tell us where you live we will have you followed until we find out. Where is the best place to eat? Which are the best tourist attractions? Where is the best beach? How much does a good meal cost? I demands that you answer me. We have ways of making you talk.' And so on. At the end of the interview he gives the person a small payment for their trouble and has them taken back to town. His newspaper column is simply a transcript of the questions and answers - with the threats removed. He also takes no responsibility for the report by beginning it with the name and location of the person he interviewed: 'According to Stan Bloggs of Cairo, the best place to eat is...' So that's how he might cope with a travel column. How about giving him some other jobs and let's see how he copes with those.
