You know you're going to get rejections. Everyone does. But why
not see this from the other point of view. You haven't been rejected
by the publisher, editor or agent. You've eliminated an unsuitable
one. Now the odds of finding the right one are reduced and your
chances of succeeding next time are that much greater. Surely
this is something to celebrate. It's like being told one of the
numbers in advance of next week's lottery draw. So reward yourself.
Keep a nice bottle of wine on standby, or watch a video that you've
been dying to see. You haven't failed - you've succeeded. Thomas
Edison had the same attitude when looking for a material for the
filament of the electric light bulb he was trying to invent. He
tried hundreds of materials - none worked. Didn't it bother him
to have failed so many times, he was asked? I haven't failed,
he replied. I have successfully eliminated hundreds of unsuitable
materials. Of course he succeeded in the end.
