Sample idea:

The modern heroine is quite a strong character with her own life and career. But that doesn't mean she's completely happy. She might have a few insecurities - perhaps she's not aware of these but they reveal themselves to the reader by her actions: bitten fingernails, the way she nibbles the corner of her lip, body language, smoking, comfort eating and so on. You can convey quite a lot about her feelings by telling the reader whether these little habits are more noticeable or less noticeable at a particular time. If she normally bites her lip, she might actually draw blood when she's really tense - despite having just told us that she's never felt more relaxed. She might manage to fool herself, but she won't fool the reader.
