Sample idea:
Having discovered that dead people don't die but slip into another
dimension, a scientist discovers a way of opening a window into
that dimension. He knows he's succeeded when he looks through
the window himself and sees his dead brother peering back at him.
He knows that he can make a huge amount of money from his invention,
by letting people come in and see their dead friends and relatives.
He sets up small screened-off areas where people can chat across
the divide privately - for a large fee. Anyone with enough money
- and they cost a considerable amount of money - can buy one of
these devices and set it up in their town or city and make a fortune
by charging people to use it. TV companies use them to interview
dead celebrities. But there are problems brewing on both sides
of the dividing wall. On the living side, spiritualists and mediums
are suddenly out of business and are determined to get their business
back. On the dead side, the people in charge are not happy about
everyone getting in contact with the living. They tolerated it
when a few mediums did it, but now everyone's doing it and it's
not right. They're determined to put a stop to it. Will they team
up with the mediums? Or will their drastic actions also prevent
mediums from contacting the dead. And now that all the living
people know that the dead are there, what other means will be
devised to contact them? What information and answers will the
dead provide? Will it lead to a spate of suicides when people
realise there really is another world to go to? Will the human
race commit mass suicide to be with their loved ones?
