Sample idea:
In virtually all stories the life of the main character has changed
by the end of the story. It doesn't always have to be a major
change; the change might only be slight. But nevertheless, there
should always be a change of some sort. The character might have
learned something about life, or himself, come to see things in
a different way, or overcome a problem that was holding him back
from doing other things. The best way to study this idea of change
is to read a few short stories and see how others have done it.
See if you can identify how the character has changed between
the start and the end. This will give you more of an idea about
how your own characters need to change. If your characters were
left completely unaffected by their ordeal then it can't have
been much of a story.
