Solving crime always makes a popular story. How about taking
a group of crime-fighting kids a stage further. This story is
for teens rather than children. It can be more realistic. They
can get into more trouble. The people they come up against will
be a little more evil than in children's stories. You can have
groups of thugs. Double-agents who infiltrate rival gangs. The
brainy one who builds detection devices and spying equipment.
Skateboard and scooter raids. It might have a happy ending and
plenty of comedy (or not) but this isn't just a cosy kids story.
You might even put a few girl/boy relationships in it, so long
as they are crucial to the plot. And how about if the girls have
to rescue the boys for once? Your plot could include blackmail,
kidnap, threats, swindles and fraud, deception and embezzlement
and theft. Murder is probably best avoided. Where do they get
their money from to pay for their crime-fighting endeavours? Rich
parents, reward money from previous cases, part-time jobs, or
do they have some other form of money-raising or financial backing?
